Kick the Bucket  2004

Developed and performed by Shagging Julie in 2004, Kick the Bucket was a work about the social history of death and the politics of killing and war – particularly in relation to the shenanigans of the 'coalition of the willing' and the weighing of human lives against financial and political gain.

___ Kick the Bucket was shown as part of the In the Raw program at Darlinghurst Theatre, Sydney. The show was preceded by an intense four weeks of exploration and rehearsals that built on a four-month period of research and skills development.

We drew together a group of sixteen performers, singers, visual/media artists, an architect and a composer to create truly interdisciplinary processes that were satisfyingly complex and penetrating, and an outcome that was cogent yet edgy.

As the leader of the process, my roles were various – from ensuring we had the structures and support around us in order to work, through creating and leading the various workshops and skill development sessions, to (most importantly) making sure the needs of the people involved were being met and balancing this with looking after the group process as a whole.
