Collaborative Practice
The concept of collaboration is very important as it means that we all get to work together, but don't all have to have the same role or fulfill the same function in a process. This human activity is always pleasurable, but often not as easy as it sounds.

Collaboration
Within this category you'll find a select number of works I have performed in, directed, put my mind to, or just practiced at being human in. __ My practice is very much about people. It is based on the philosophical assumption that there need not be opposition between the needs of individuals and the functioning of societies. In the shaping of the working processes in a collaboration I seek to play out ways people can work together toward a common goal, yet be respected for their strengths whilst also being challenged in appropriate ways. For collaboration to succeed, it is important to recognise that each of us taking part will each fulfill different roles in a process. At the same time, these roles should not become drivers of single immutable identities that serve only to define power relationships. Instead I try to work in a way that acknowledges what we are doing at any time rather than who we are. For these reasons I rarely choose to work alone. Waiting for an audience (in the traditional sense, until the end of a process) means the human to human relationships come too late and somehow reinforce the dichotomies of self/other, individual/society, inside/outside I am trying to break down. |
